Fix a Very Hard or a Very Soft Polymer Clay
Playing and molding clay in the first few months, I have not encountered any problems directly with clay. Every bar, I was in good condition. Meaning, neither hard nor soft. Just enough love to play clay.
Until one occasion, one of my students asked me, she encountered too dry clay, a bar. She had been trying to rub it in her hand, it did not change its appearance. She even tried to run the pasta machine. She still can not make a solid compound. I was shocked to hear her experience, because I have not experienced yet. I can not make any recommendations, because I do not have an actual sample to play with.
Two weeks later, I received my distributor has the same condition clay. It is a solid block, when I received it, but I have a hard time cutting. Smooth and polished appearance outside, but inside too dry. I suddenly remembered my students encounter. Now is my time to play with and want to collect information and to have a solid answer or methods to solve her concerns.
I searched polymer clay. In this way, I will be able to know what is possible liquid component that I can use to solve dullness.
What is Fimo ingredients?
Basically, clay is not really a terracotta clay, as I have mentioned in my previous post. It is composed of polyvinyl chloride or so-called PVC. No clay material. You might be wondering how it is to be a block or a large compound. This is because, like plasticized or plastigel, making it a liquid plasticizer. Ah! It seems that my lack of liquid plasticizer clay, I need to find a good alternative.
The recommended alternative, what you need is what?
First things first. Of course, the number one recommended by Sculpey clay softener slightly. This is a good product, but then again does not match with other brands of clay. If you have a tight budget, it will not be your best choice.
The second proposal is oil. Yes, any particular brand or baby oil on the line. You can also try cooking oil or olive oil. For me, my choice is baby oil. Using it is not easy for the ABC. You can simply drag and drop the oil dry clay, everything will be fine.
How to apply clay softener or oil dry clay.
1. Cut section, you will need your project clay.
2. Decline softener or oil tile, ensure that the measurement based on the portion of the liquid, you will use clay. Note that too much will make your clay is too soft and sticky.
3. Top of the clay droplets. Leave for a few minutes. Time depends on how much clay is. Requires sufficient time to enable the clay water tank.
4. You can check the clay from time to time to make sure you have achieved the desired results.
5. After soaking the soil conditions to start using bare hands, and make sure your hands are clean. Please note that any dirt in your hand may be transferred to your work with clay.
The next question is, how do you know if there is enough time to soak in the implementation. Technically, there is no standard to follow. Because it always depends on how you dry clay. You'll know if you do it right the conditioning process.
When you start conditioning your clay, it will not be crumbled. And clay becomes sticky. Top, enough to make you mold, bend and create your desired item.
On the other hand, dryness is not the only problem you will encounter clay. Another concern is too sticky clay. Such concerns are more difficult to handle.
Slime how to deal?
1. Cut part of the clay used.
2. Conditions or clay flatten with your hands. You can also use your pasta machine, but because the clay stuck to your machine may leave some residual.
3. Have a clean bond paper.
4. Put your paper clay, and gently wrapped. Do not press or, wrap the paper around it a little squeeze.
5. Leave 30 minutes clays. After that, you will find that the excess liquid has been absorbed by the paper.
If you still feel that your clay sticky, just repeat the process.
